Fine-Point Permanent Markers
Hurricane Katrina brought a lot of things to mind as we watched tragedy unfold on so many families. As parents tried to ensure the safety of their children, they would put them on busses ahead of themselves, and expected that they'd be on the next buss and meet up at the same spot, only to be sent hundreds of miles away from where their kids ended up. If you have a supply of permanent markers (Sharpies or similar), you could have written the kids name on their back, your names (the parents) and a next of kin and their phone number in another city that was probably not affected by the disaster. That way your child basically has a "If found, please return to...." message, instead of just being one of the many lost people with no way to find each other. |
